The Mount Sinai Clinical & Translational Science Award Program Community & Collaboration Core (CTSA C&C) is seeking applicants for a new Community Engagement Scholars program. This program supports staff members from New York City Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) who are interested in learning more about environmental and public health and translating research to community action. Scholars will participate in professional development opportunities through Mount Sinai’s Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) program, receive a stipend, and engage with a network of researchers, clinicians, and community partners.
The goal of this program is to build long-term capacity within CBOs to support translation of scientific research into meaningful, community-informed action. Scholars are expected to bring back skills, tools, and insights gained through the program to benefit their home organizations and the communities they serve. At the conclusion of the program, Scholars will present a work plan describing how they will incorporate acquired knowledge and skills into the work that they do with their organization to benefit the communities they serve.
*** A cohort of three scholars will each be awarded a $9,000 stipend (through their organization) for 12 months of participation. Scholars are expected to dedicate approximately 5 hours per month to Mount Sinai–led training and educational activities and applied learning together as a scholar group. This commitment is designed to be compatible with full-time employment at a community-based organization. Training sessions and meetings will be scheduled according to Scholar availability. ***
