Introduction by Kirstyn Bonetti, Board Member, Institute for Exposomic Research
A healthy school environment that includes access to clean air and water and safe spaces to play is critical to children’s health and well-being. Although children spend as much as 20% of their time in school, more than half of the school buildings in the US are in need of critical structural improvements. Through case examples, Drs. Maida Galvez and Sarah Evans will share common concerns in the school environment and discuss steps that schools and families can take to ensure optimal environments for learning.
This discussion is part of a community webinar series organized by the Mount Sinai Institute for Exposomic Research. Through these talks, scientists share the latest research on how the environment affects health. We aim to translate our science to empower families and communities to understand the science and make the lifestyle changes that matter most. It is supported by the Mount Sinai Center for Health and Environment Across the Lifespan (HEALS), grant # P30ES023515 from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, grant #UL1TR004419 from the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program, which is part of the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS).
