Dr. Merced-Nieves, PhD, is interviewed by Contemporary Pediatrics Editor Joshua Fitch, discussing her August 2023 study examining the association of prenatal exposures to a metal mixture and stress and the potential health effects. This research offers insights into the complex interactions of many exposures, both chemical and non-chemical that occur in utero and opportunities to counsel pregnant women on ways to counteract the toxicity of stress and metal mixtures. Dr. Merced-Nieves highlights the importance of prenatal care, nutrition, and supports for parents to reduce stress both in pregnancy and the postnatal period.
