The Mount Sinai Clinical & Translational Science Award Program Community & Collaboration Core (CTSA C&C) announced on March 30, 2026, the acceptance of three scholars into a new training program designed to build the long-term capacity of community-based organizations to support translation of scientific research into meaningful, community-informed action.
The kickoff meeting, held at the Sixth Street Community Center, brought together approximately 20 attendees. It served to introduce the project team, build local interest, and begin identifying priority areas for monitoring and community action.
Community mapping in environmental health science aims to empower communities by integrating local knowledge with scientific methods to gather and analyze data. This process enables the discovery of actionable insights, making it a valuable resource for advocacy, strategic planning, and implementing solutions specific to a community’s needs.
Environmental health scientists at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai have a long history of supporting evidence-based protective policies and practices. For this reason, they are frequently called upon by community organizations and concerned residents for expert guidance on the health effects of environmental exposures and strategies to create safer environments.
This year, the Center on Health and Environment Across the LifeSpan (HEALS) Pilot Projects Program marks its ten-year anniversary. The Program bears a robust track record of providing seed funding for groundbreaking research that has identified key environmental drivers of human health.

The Center’s aim is to foster innovative research and multidisciplinary collaborations in the field of environmental health sciences. This funding opportunity invites researchers from diverse disciplines to submit proposals for pilot projects that address critical environmental health issues and contribute to the advancement of our understanding of environmental exposures and their impacts on human health.
